Capitalized Maintenance
Capitalized maintenance projects funded through Measures B and BB for Fiscal Year 2020/21 include surfacing and replacement of rail for ride quality between Niles Junction and Alameda County/San Joaquin County line, and rehabilitation of grade crossings and switches.
The Sunol Quiet Zone
Alameda County sponsored a quiet zone that was implemented in the Sunol community on the Oakland subdivision of Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) from Castlewood Drive in Pleasanton through Main Street in Sunol. The Sunol Quiet Zone commenced on June 30, 2018, with safety enhancements for three grade crossings. Other improvements are in progress with expected completion by Alameda County in the 2021-2022 fiscal year.
Operational Costs
Local funding provided by Measures B and BB for Fiscal Year 2020/21 approached $3.5 million and was expended on operational program costs for the ACE service. This allowed essential transit service to continue to be provided during the COVID-19 pandemic.
