The Altamont Corridor Express® (ACE) Passenger Rail Service receives grant to begin saturday service

The Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) passenger rail service was awarded a grant through the State Rail Assistance (SRA) fund by the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA).

These funds will go to support a brand new Saturday service on the main line for ACE between Stockton and San Jose. This weekend program will help ACE service support more leisure travel to the Bay Area, with the ability to connect to events and activities in San Jose, Levi’s Stadium, and San Francisco. The benefits of ACE Saturday service also include improved air quality and reduced traffic congestion, as well as an alternative to driving through impacted Bay Area roads such as the I-580 and I-680 corridors.

Saturday service has been a strong request amongst passengers of ACE, and would not be possible without the passage of the SB 1 - Road Repair and Accountability Act. CalSTA listed ACE Saturday service as a top project in the early rounds of SB 1 grants due to growing ridership and project feasibility.

“Our efforts are focused on offering a service that meets the needs expressed by our passengers, so that more people choose to take the trains. Thanks to SB 1 this has been made possible,” said Stacey Mortensen, San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission (SJRRC) Executive Director.
