Capitalized maintenance projects funded through Measure B and BB are:

Surfacing the rail for ride quality between Niles Junction and Alameda County/San Joaquin County line, brush cutting and vegetation control in Niles Canyon, complete Redmond cut surfacing and annual ditch cleaning, and concrete tie replacement of 3,639 ties at Grand Island.

The Sunol Quiet Zone

Alameda County and Supervisor Scott Haggerty, in partnership with the ACE forward program, sponsored a quiet zone that was implemented in the Sunol community on the Oakland subdivision of Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) from Castlewood Drive in Pleasanton through Main Street in Sunol.

The Sunol Quiet Zone commenced on June 30, 2018, with safety enhancements for three grade crossings, and other improvements are in progress with expected completion in the 2019-2020 year.

Operational Costs

Local measure revenue between B and BB approached $4 million and substantially all was expended on mass transit program costs for the San Joaquin, Alameda, and Santa Clara service, which transported a record 2 million passengers in the 2018-2019 year.
